What the job involves
A Python developer writes code in Python: the server side of websites and apps, automation scripts, data-processing services and integrations between systems. They turn a business task into a working program, test it and maintain it after launch. The language is valued for its readable syntax, so it is used in web development, analytics and automation of routine work alike.
Skills you need
- Python basics: data types, functions, classes, working with files
- Git and the command line
- databases and SQL
- web frameworks such as Django or Flask, and working with APIs
- reading other people's code and technical documentation
- English good enough to read documentation
- attention to detail and patience when hunting for bugs
How to start and learn
Start with the basics of the language and small exercises, then build a few projects of your own: a Telegram bot, a site scraper, a small web application. Publish the code on GitHub so an employer can see your practice. It is better to study regularly and have your assignments reviewed by a mentor than to study in bursts. The first position is usually junior or intern, where more experienced colleagues are close by and you learn on real tasks.
Where they work
In Armenia Python developers work in startups, product and outsourcing companies, banks and fintech projects, and as freelancers for foreign clients. Python also opens the way to neighbouring fields: data analysis, automation and machine learning.
